Born in South London in 1932, Brian studied at Croydon School of Art 1948-51 and the Royal College of Art 1951-4. Shortly after this he was awarded the Rome Scholarship.
He taught at Ealing School of Art 1956-63, Hornsey College of Art 1960-4, the Royal College of Art 1963-4 and became Head of Printmaking at Wimbledon School of Art 1964.
His work was inspired by interests in landscape and the architecture of both natural and man-made forms. He explored their structure through drawing, to establish elements which later formed the basis of his etchings.
His work is held by the Metropolitan, New York; Library of Congress, Washington D.C.; Glasgow University; Leeds City Art Gallery; the V&A and the British Council.
