Harry Brockway RE

Born 1958

Elected ARE 1992 then rejoined 2008, RE 2015

We are very sad to announce that Harry passed away early January 2024

Harry Brockway began engraving while a student of sculpture at the Royal Academy Schools (1978 -81). He then trained as a stone mason and was a stone carver for twenty years.

Harry's work in print making was almost exclusively wood engraving. Much of his inspiration came from literary sources and he illustrated a number of books including 'Frankenstein', 'Crime and Punishment' and 'Huckleberry Finn' for The Folio Society and 'The Man Who Planted Trees' for Harvill Secker.

These two disciplines worked alongside one another very well; literary ideas for illustrations often found their way into his sculpture and sculptural forms are what he favoured in his engraving.

Unfortunately we are no longer to take enquiries for sales of Harry's work
